13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher

Our next meeting we'll be talking about this book:

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
"Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a strange package with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers several cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker - his classmate and crush - who committed suicide two weeks earlier. Hannah's voice tells him that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out why. Clay spends the night crisscrossing his town with Hannah as his guide. He becomes a firsthand witness to Hannah's pain, and learns the truth about himself-a truth he never wanted to face."

If you'd like a copy, please let me know. Our next meeting will be the first week of January!!

Next Book Club

Sorry! I've been behind in updating the blog!

The book we've been reading the past 2 months has been Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie by David Lubar.

Starting high school is never easy. Seniors take your lunch money. Girls you’ve known forever are suddenly beautiful and unattainable. And you can never get enough sleep. Could there be a worse time for Scott’s mother to announce she’s pregnant? Scott decides high school would be a lot less overwhelming if it came with a survival manual, so he begins to write down tips for his new sibling. Meanwhile, he’s trying his best to capture the attention of Julia, the freshman goddess. In the process, Scott manages to become involved in nearly everything the school has to offer. So while he tries to find his place in the confusing world of high school, win Julia’s heart, and keep his sanity, Scott will be recording all the details for his sibling’s—and your—enjoyment.

Before I Die by Jenny Downham

This book is about a girl who creates a list of everything she wants to do before she dies.

This is our next book for book club!

I have copies available if you still need one.

I am going to warn you...if you haven't found it already...there are a couple sex scenes in the book. They aren't explicit, but I didn't find them until after we handed out the book!

DEADLINE

Kay.. so i havent exactly finished the book yet but im well over half way in it. and so far i think that while its true that he deserves his privacy, he really does need to get the medicine. i mean, seriously, he's with Dallas and its just not fair that she's told him her secrets and he still has yet to tell her. LESS THAN 1 YEAR!!!! junk noodles. well so far these are my thoughts.

Deadline by Chris Crutcher

Ben Wolf has big things planned for his senior year. Had big things planned. Now what he has is some very bad news and only one year left to make his mark on the world.

How can a pint-sized, smart-ass 17-year old do anything significant in the nowheresville of Trout, Idaho?

First, Ben makes sure that no one else knows what is going on--not his superstar quarterback brother, Cody, not his parents, not his coach, no one. Next, he decides to become the best 127-pound football player Trout High has ever seen; to give his close-minded civics teacher a daily migraine; and to help the local drunk clean up his act.

And then there's Dallas Suzuki. Amazingly perfect, fascinating Dallas Suzuki, who may or may not give Ben the time of day. Really, she's the first on the list.

Living with a secret isn't easy, though, and Ben's resolve begins to crumble...especially when he realizes that he isn't the only person in Trout with secrets.
